Description

From the Losheim reservoir via Waldhölzbach to the health resort of Weiskirchen.

The highlights of this stage are the stunning views from the highest village in Saarland, overlooking the tranquil stream valleys and various rock formations, all the way to Weiskirchen. The stage ends at the natural swimming pool – always a welcome refreshment after this up-and-down hike.

Directions

This very eventful stage has a challenging elevation profile. Therefore, you should plan for an average speed of 3 kilometers per hour. It begins with the ascent from the reservoir to Scheiden, the highest village in Saarland. At the "Sinnenbänke" viewpoint, you have a spectacular panoramic view over Saarland. The trail then descends into the wild Lannenbach valley. It leads over several rock formations and past the Kneipp facility with its fishing pond, always climbing gently uphill. Crossing another ridge, we approach the pristine Hölzbach valley with its Devil's Rock and reach the historic bakehouse in Waldhölzbach. The trail then climbs more steeply again over the Angel's Rock until you reach the Rappweiler Wildlife Park at the top, home to numerous animals, including bison. Through the wildly romantic Hölzbach valley, the trail leads past impressive rock formations to Weiskirchen and its swimming pool. A 1.5 km access path leads to the center of Weiskirchen.

equipment

The Saar-Hunsrück Trail is a nature trail, 65% of which runs over soft forest floors, grassy paths, or alongside streams. However, this unique quality can also lead to problems after prolonged periods of rain, making sections of the trail difficult to traverse. Therefore, sturdy footwear is strongly recommended.
