Description
From the heights of the Hunsrück, this stage of the Saar-Hunsrück Trail leads into the idyllic Ruwer Valley with its wine villages.
We bid farewell to the lake in Kell and climb steadily uphill through a beautiful stream valley into the Osburg High Forest. There, we experience one of the highlights of the stage. We cross the Rösterbruch moor via boardwalks, a moor with birch trees, sphagnum moss cushions, and purple moor grass.
Then begins the long descent into the Ruwer Valley, which first leads us through the deep forests of the Osburg High Forest. After crossing a road, we enjoy sensational views stretching as far as the Eifel region until we reach Bonerath. The trail then descends through an atmospheric valley to the Riveris Dam.
A particularly large bench invites us to rest at the most scenic viewpoint overlooking the dam. We then explore the "Langenstein" rock formation and reach the Ruwer Valley, which offers a particularly beautiful stretch right along the Ruwer River near Waldrach. The day's destination is the charming wine villages of Kasel and Mertesdorf.

Safety instructions
The Saar-Hunsrück Trail is a nature trail, 65% of which runs over soft forest floors, grassy paths, or alongside streams. However, this unique quality can also lead to problems after prolonged periods of rain, making sections of the trail more difficult to traverse. Therefore, sturdy footwear is strongly recommended.
equipment
We recommend sturdy footwear (hiking boots) and weather-appropriate hiking clothing for all stages.
