Potato Days Saar-Hunsrück

Saturday, October 9, 2027 – Sunday, October 24, 2027

Description

It all started more than 30 years ago with the Hochwald Potato Days in Kell am See, which have since evolved into the Saar-Hunsrück Potato Days. Every October, the potato, once often ridiculed as poor people's food, takes center stage in culinary attention. Since the two-week event expanded from the Hochwald region to encompass the entire area around the Saar-Hunsrück Trail in 2015, more and more businesses and visitors are embracing the 14-day culinary celebration centered around the potato. The ingenuity of our chefs in preparing this staple food during the Potato Days is truly impressive.
The Saar-Hunsrück Potato Days are complemented by a series of culinary and regional events organized by restaurants, towns, municipalities, and associations.

October 9th - 24th, 2027 - Saar-Hunsrück Potato Days

The potato originally came to Europe from South America. Initially used mostly as an ornamental plant, it took some time before it found its way into the cooking pot as an edible tuber. Today, more than 300 million tons of potatoes are harvested worldwide each year. This cultivated plant is one of the most important staple foods on earth, contains many nutrients, hardly any fat, plenty of protein and vitamin C, and is traditionally an integral part of German cuisine.
