Ruwer-Hochwald Cycle Path

Passing by an adventure playground and through the idyllic Ruwer Valley, the family-friendly bike tour leads from the Hunsrück region to the Moselle River near Trier.

The family-friendly Ruwer-Hochwald Cycle Path, along with the Maare-Mosel and Schinderhannes Cycle Paths, is one of the most distinctive railway cycle paths in Rhineland-Palatinate. It connects the Hunsrück heights, running along the foot of the Hochwald forest through the winding and tranquil Ruwer Valley, to the Moselle River near Trier. The adventure playground in Reinsfeld and the numerous bridges make the cycle path suitable for children as well.

From the train station in Hermeskeil, the route leads across the Hunsrück heights to Reinsfeld and over the watershed between Reinsfeld and Kell am See, which marks the highest point of the tour. From Niederkell and Waldrach, the cycle path leads away from the towns and through the wooded countryside, soon entering the narrow, winding, and tranquil Ruwer Valley. From here, the route descends steadily over numerous bridges. On weekends and during school holidays, you can return to the starting point using the Ruwer-Hochwald cycle bus line 222.

Via the Hunsrück-Höhenstraße B 407 / B 327 or the A 1, junction 133 to Hermeskeil.
