Description

Challenging gravel tour across the wooded high forest heights and through the Mediterranean-like Ruwer Valley.

Strong gravel bikers will find more than enough views and elevation gain on the 55-kilometer tour through the Hochwald holiday region and over the Rösterkopf.

Directions

From Mandern, we cycle along farm tracks to the neighboring village of Waldweiler and continue towards the B 407, which we cross. Following forest paths, we reach the Kell am See glider airfield and shortly afterwards the town of Kell am See, where tired cyclists can refresh themselves at the Hotel Zur Post or the Hotel Typisch . Refreshed, we tackle the climb to the Rösterkopf, where the Ruwer spring originates. The Rösterkopf circular trail leads us through the Misselbach valley to the Riveris dam and into the village of Riveris, from there to the village of Morscheid and back up to the heights of the Hochwald forest. We pass the Bomerath and the cultural monument "Three Murderers," climb the Osburg Hochwald forest, and cycle towards Schillingen to the Schillingen leisure park with its spit-roast hall, barefoot path, and fishing pond. A descent takes us to the Ruwer River and onto the Ruwer-Hochwald cycle path, which we follow for a short distance towards Mandern. Halfway along the route, you can see the Fleschfelsen, an impressive quartzite rock formation, through a clearing. Passing the hikers' hut, we conclude the tour on the paved path back to the starting point in the village of Mandern.
