Description
The Ruwer Cycling Route follows paved roads for almost 50% of its length. It is characterized by several long climbs and extended rest stretches at higher elevations.
The Hunsrück Cycling Routes:
Carefully selected for active cyclists, these routes connect existing cycle paths and are consistently signposted. The routes have a mountain biking character. The focus is primarily on providing a nature-oriented experience for the athletically inclined cyclist in the most idyllic landscapes of our region.
Directions
The Riveris Reservoir, a drinking water reservoir, collects water from several streams in the Osburg High Forest. What could be more natural than exploring this water-rich region at its highest elevations from the reservoir, especially since the source of the Ruwer River is located along the way? Tranquil forest areas invite you to cycle briskly – depending on your fitness level, of course – as the route involves several long and steep climbs. Impressive panoramic views of the landscape can be enjoyed at numerous points, along with many wayside crosses, and the inviting Keller Lake provides a perfect spot for a break.
Key points along the route are:
Starting point at the entrance to Waldrach from the direction of Thomm/Hermeskeil, junction L 149/K65 (0 km, 176 m elevation gain) - Donatuskreuz viewpoint near the sports field (2.5 km, 320 m elevation gain) - Bonerath junction (6.7 km, 445 m elevation gain) - Crossing L 146 near the "Three Murderers" stone grave (8.6 km, 517 m elevation gain) - "Gattermann's Little House" forester's lodge (14.8 km, 477 m elevation gain) - Schillingen town exit, Trierer Straße (18.5 km, 507 m elevation gain) - Keller See (21.4 km, 476 m elevation gain) - Ruwer spring (25.2 km, 594 m elevation gain) - 2nd crossing of L 146 (26.8 km, 642 m elevation gain) - Riveris reservoir shore (34.9 km, 330 m elevation gain) hm) - Riveris Reservoir dam (38.2 km, 314 m elevation gain) - Destination Waldrach, town entrance from the direction of Thomm/Hermeskeil (43 km, 176 m elevation gain)
