Detailed description

The Greimerath High Trail, a 13.3 km long premium hiking trail

, is the first cross-state premium loop between Bergen in Saarland and Greimerath in the Hunsrück region of Rhineland-Palatinate.
The trail impresses with its harmonious blend of diverse woodlands and small open fields, interspersed with natural streams and beautiful views of the 1,100-inhabitant village of Greimerath. The Ochsenwiese nature reserve and the Lourdes Grotto on the edge of the village are highlights of this premium trail. It leads along mostly narrow paths through the typical, dense forests of the high forest. At the end of the hike, a detour to the parish church of St. Nicholas, completely renovated in 2009 and open to visitors daily, is highly recommended.
