Historical Nativity Scene

54427 Kell am Seeapprox. 0.5 km from Kell am See

Description

The historic nativity scene in the parish church of St. Bartholomew in Kell am See depicts the stations from the life of Jesus with around 200 hand-carved figures.

Detailed description

Displayed year-round above the sacristy of the Catholic parish church in Kell am See, the Nativity scene, completely restored between 2005 and 2007, delights countless visitors. Created and continually expanded between 1870 and 1925 by the Rhenish Nativity scene builder Jakob Reischig, it clearly reflects the influence of both the Baroque and Nazarene schools of art. The entire story of salvation, from the Marriage of Mary to the Entry into Jerusalem, is impressively depicted. Equally impressive is the portrayal of the two cities of Bethlehem and Jerusalem, along with a desert landscape and the Holy Family's flight to Egypt.

Opening hours: December 25th to December 30th, 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm. Access via the side entrance.
Group visits upon request.
