The Ruwer-Hochwald cycle path
Description
Detailed description
Simply through the heart of nature...
The Ruwer-Hochwald Cycle Path demonstrates what can become of a railway line when trains no longer run. Where trains once rolled from Trier through the Ruwer Valley to Hermeskeil for over 80 years, and sometimes even longer, the Ruwer-Hochwald Cycle Path has transformed into a recreational paradise for cyclists, skaters, and hikers.
The 48-kilometer route from Trier-Ruwer through the Ruwer Valley, via Kell am See, to Hermeskeil follows the former railway line, showcasing the region's beautiful landscape from a perspective once only possible from a train window.
The major advantage: the former railway line is largely flat, making it particularly family-friendly today. With gentle inclines, the route follows the Ruwer River through vineyards, meadows, and forests, passing through idyllic villages along the Ruwer and Hochwald rivers – simply right in the heart of nature.
Those wishing to avoid the slight climb from Trier to Hermeskeil can use the cyclist bus for this leg during peak season.
